MiloYiannopoulos

In a move that has come to shock the internet, Milo Yiannopoulos Resigns from his position as editor at Breitbart News. The decision came after backlash from a video that surfaced from a year ago, in which Yiannopoulos made controversial comments about the age of consent laws. These comments seemed to indicate that Yiannopoulos excused, or even justified, pedophilia.

Yiannopoulos took to social media to defend himself against the backlash, which had already cost him a high-profile speaking gig and a book deal with Simon & Schuster. On Facebook, Yiannopoulos attempted to clarify what he said in the live stream video, claiming he used poor phrasing and that the video had been edited to make his words seem worse. Later, Yiannopoulos addressed his comments more fully in a press conference, admitting the opinions expressed in the live stream video were wrong, and citing his own history with childhood sexual abuse. He then attempted to defend himself further, claiming that his words had been misunderstood and misconstrued by the media and that many people simply did not understand his brand of sarcasm and humor.

Twitter Trolls Are Being Eliminated

TwitterTrolls

Twitter has been active trying to get rid of trolls or limiting their reach so when they attack, their tweets are not read. The company just updated its abuse policy to target those that attack others through the platform. The company also has a new tool to find abuse automatically by comparing patterns to previous patterns that were found to be abusive. The company also plans to be more responsive to reports of abuse.

This is a change from prior activity by the company which favored growth over limiting the actions of certain members. Investors are looking for growth in subscribers and the company has seen a decline in engagement recently. They now feel that by limiting the abusive accounts, they can increase engagement and hopefully membership.

The company feels the new abuse policy will enable them to take action against abusive members. They also plan to monitor the way in which abuse changes and make alterations to their policy as needed in the future.
