Google Book Search Class Action Settlement
Authors and publishers around the world are beginning to receive notices by email about a landmark Class Action Settlement by Google for its Book Search functionality according to a recent press release. Members of the class action can find information on www.googlebooksettlement.com.
Google Continues Dominance
If the Courts approve the settlement, Google will be allowed to scan in-copyright materials, maintain an indexed database, and use the book material in a number of different ways. For out-of-print books, Google will be able to sell access to the book, sell advertising on the pages of the books, and make additional commercial use of the material. Google will pay Rightsholders 63% of all revenue generated from the commercial selling of the books online.
