World-famous entrepreneur Elon Musk has created a new company called Neuralink which will focus on developing the human brain through the power of technological augmentation. At last years' Code Conference Musk spoke about the idea of using surgical connections to the brain to allow an individual to interact with computers (including the mouse and keyboard) without having to use bandwidth. Since then, he has revealed on Twitter that progress has been made on this exploratory technology.
While the Neuralink company won't be focused on upgrading human brainpower for the present time, it will research how brain activity may be used to treat life-threatening and chronic medical conditions, such as epilepsy, depression and bipolar disorder. This research could be used to augment existing treatments and therapies by using brain electrodes to treat the symptoms of the disease. Such knowledge would provide Neuralink with further clues on how to use established science to create pathways for this technology to be approved for human use and its long-term goal of technology in human augmentation.
